If you know my story with Deek, you know I moved across the country to be with him (in a few years, he will reciprocate and move back to the South with me--we have a two-way street relationship like that)! ;) Anyhoo, we traveled back to see my family and friends in November. It was my first time on a plane since I was 13 years old, and I hated it as much this time as I did then. LOL! I was born and raised, for my entire life, in the same state, in the same area even! So, moving across the country and coming back felt strange. I'd never done anything like that before. I cried when I saw my home state from the air. I cried again when we touched down on Southern soil.
There are no direct flights from where we live now to where I used to live in the South. So, we had to switch flights. On the flight over, we caught a connecting flight in Salt Lake City, Utah. When we stepped out of the bridgeway and into the airport, Deek and I stopped and stared in awe at the gorgeous mountains of Utah. The picture doesn't do it justice, but the sight was breathtaking!
I can't reiterate enough how much I hate to fly. Anyhoo, moving on...
We got to hang out with a lot of friends and family while we were there! We are so thankful to all the people that put us up for the night. We didn't even have to get a hotel, except by choice on Deek's birthday, because of the hospitality of our friends and family!
Holdin' babies!
Went to see Mockingjay with my soul sister and Dream Team member, Dawn
Ice cream date with my friend and Realtor, Heather! Her phone had some uber cool face smoothing app on it! LOL!
Yvonne joined us for the ice cream date!
Triple threat right here!! These ladies put us up for several nights! Love them!
Going to see Christmas lights!
Coffee and book talking with Dream Team Member, Danielle!
My grandpa's (PaPa) birthday celebration. He's always called me his Babydoll! <3
Hanging out with my grandma (Mema) and her twin sister! Woot!
We got to hold babies, go to movies, visit with friends and family, see the Christmas light displays that went up, eat tons of great food, and I even met some fans and had some book signings! #AuthorDream
Christmas lights--so pretty, especially to the ADD folks in this picture! ;)
Sweet fans!!
Signing books at the local Starbucks!
While we were there, we celebrated Deek's birthday. We had one of our favorite meals--apparently only found in the South since we haven't been able to locate any in the PNW--cheese dip/queso and then headed out for the date portion! A long time ago, we played a random question game to get to know one another better. The challenge--to design a fun, non-traditional date. As a part of the date he created, Deek said he'd give me $5 to spend in a store. We'd spend time wandering around discussing the merits of each choice and finally settle on the purchase. But we've never actually done this date. So, I decided to turn it around and do that for him for his birthday. It was SO super fun! We also had a great time cutting up in the store as we searched for "THE" gift. Hahaha!
Cheese dip!!!
With sadness to leave but a joy for the time spent, we headed to the airport to fly back. BUT our first flight got delayed, which meant we couldn't get our connecting flight. After much juggling, the sweet lady at the desk managed to get us a flight to NYC on a different airline. From there, we would pick up a plane that would take us to the Pacific Northwest. Well...no one told me we would be flying in a pencil. A PENCIL! People, I had to duck (I'm 5' 2") to enter the plane. I have never been so scared in my life. In fact, I sent an "If I don't see you ever again, I love you" to my family and friends on FB. Here's the pic...
Have I mentioned I HATE flying?
Thankfully, the pencil got us safely to New York where we booked it Home Alone-style from one airline's terminal to the other.
The Big Apple!
Gotta catch our flight!!
We had a 2.5 hour layover, and it took us 2 hours to get from the gate at which we landed to the next gate. We had to take a bus and a train, and we had to go through security again! UGH! But we made our connecting flight and took the 5.5 hour flight back home. 5.5 HOURS, people! That time frame is so much longer when you hate what you're doing. I wanted to kiss the ground when we landed.
Next time we travel to the South, I'd like to drive or take a train. I'm so serious. LOL! But despite my fear of flying, we had a marvelous time! In fact, wherever I go, I have a blast because Deek is by my side!!
I love him so much! He always makes me laugh!!
