Name That Dragon Blog Hunt

Picture
As the 6th stop in the Name That Dragon Blog Hunt, this post contains the answer to the last post. It is your job, as the reader, to find it. Please remember your answer to this puzzle, as well as any past and future ones within this tour. You will need to know ALL the answers to enter for the chance to win the Grand Prize of a sterling silver Celtic triquetra on a 16in chain and a pre-order code.

I am so stoked to be hosting my friend Melissa for this Name That Dragon Blog Tour!!!  I had the pleasure of asking her questions about Dante, the demigod in her story.  If you know me, you know I love a demigod--Percy Jackson in da house!! Of course, Melissa told me I may be a dragon girl based on the type of build I like in a man (muscular, in case you're wondering). Mind you, I'm not into scary dragons, or scary anything for that matter. Reminds me of the time Liam earned ‘Scary Dragon’ after coming around a corner that morning and nearly giving her a heart attack. Anyhoo, I can't tell you how stoked I am to read this book! Buff dragons, cool as a cucumber demigods, and a kick-butt female character?? Where do I sign up?

INTERVIEW ABOUT DANTE
1) Is Dante based on anyone you know?

Not at all, though I think he would be a fascinating person to know. However, he does have blue eyes like my husband.

2) Please explain Dante’s origins (does the Mother Goddess take a human form to create children with mortals…that sort of thing).

A lot of his origins are explained in the first book, and we continue learning more in the short story I wrote that should be coming out in the fall called “Fallen Son, Darkest Night”. Readers will also discover a great deal of Dante’s history in the second book, BLOOD OF STARS AND GODS. For now, I can tell you all the deities maintain human forms, even in the High Realm, and Dante looks very much like his mother.

3) Can you describe Dante in 5 words?

Beautiful, erudite, loyal, haunted, lost

4) What is Dante’s biggest character flaw, and can he overcome it?

Definitely, that would be the inner demons of his very dark past. Can he overcome it? He believes he has, but what he’s done to overcome those demons and how others have dealt with his dark past sometimes come back to bite him and make the struggle harder, hence why I describe him in part as “haunted” and “lost”. Dante’s past and that darkness are still very much a part of him, despite how much he may want to deny it. He has to deal with them.

5) You call the relationship between Dante and Theo a “bromance.” Can you explain that?

The short story I wrote, “Fallen Son, Darkest Night” gets a bit more into their history, but I’ll tell you they’ve been friends for roughly 3000 years. You can guess that’s enough time to become close. There’s a lot of love between them, and this matter with Cait puts them in an awkward situation they’ve never been in before. It’s difficult and sad, yet beautiful to watch them trying not to destroy that friendship in the process.

6) Dante has very serious ideals about the sanctity of marriage. From where do these beliefs come?

Those are the standard beliefs among the High Realm. The same belief system is still held by the Fae and is the origination of the human concept of marriage. A similar ideal is the basis of Elfin marriage, and most vampires apply the standards if they choose to marry as well.

7) What do you like best about Dante?

I like that despite being an insanely powerful demigod and 7000 years old, Dante is still half-human. What makes that particularly great about him is the fact he doesn’t really know how to cope with a lot of human aspects of life because he is this ancient demigod. I like the contradictions within him and how Dante exists in this perfectly flawed way only he can.

8) What would Cait gain by choosing Dante for her husband (versus choosing the other men)?

This is a question begging for spoilers, Erin! I will say, given her destiny, certain traits in Dante are naturally ideal for Cait. There are things he understands about her better than others do… But I’m not sure anyone fully understands Cait.
