Travelers Blurb:

Sienna Crenshaw knows the rules: 1) no time traveling beyond your natural lifetime, 2) no screwing with death, and 3) no changing the past. Ever. Sienna doesn’t love being stuck in the present, but she’s not the type to break the rules. That is, she wasn’t the type until her best friend broke every one of those rules to keep Henry, her twin brother and Sienna’s ex-boyfriend, alive.

Suddenly, Sienna is caught in an unfamiliar reality. The upside? Henry is still alive. The downside? Sienna’s old life, including the people in it, has been erased. Now, Sienna and Henry must untangle the giant knot in time, or her parents and all the rest of the Travelers, will be lost forever. One problem: the only way to be successful is for Henry to die.

Author Bio:

I’ve never been a big fan of talking about myself, but if you really want to know, here are some random tidbits about me:

>I'm a California girl. This generally means I talk too fast and use "like" a lot. Since I now live in Montana, sometimes this is a problem.

>I have my doctorate in molecular anthropology. Translation: I sequence dead people's DNA and spend a whole lot of time in a lab, which I love.

>I've been writing since I was 11 years old. It's my hobby, my passion, and I'm so happy to get to share my work!

>My other passion is teaching. There's nothing more fun than getting a classroom of college kids fired up about anthropology! This is probably a good thing, since my day job requires me to teach at the local university.

>If I could have a super-power, it would totally be flying. Which is a little strange, because I'm terrified of heights.

Let's play a game!

Ok, so you know I have THE most amazing cover artist in the world, right? Anita at RacePoint is just supremely talented, and she's currently reading through my final book in the trilogy, The Fulfillment, to decide how to arrange the cover.

While we wait, let's play a little game. If you remember, my friend and Dream Team member Danielle created crests for every people group listed in the books.

Here they are:

Vanguard

I plan to get a tattoo of this symbol on my left shoulder soon. Once Deek's book releases, we'll be getting book tattoos together.

Ecclesiastic

Volton

Ethereal

Outlander

Danielle spent countless hours researching the symbolism and meaning behind each crest, and she's going to write a blog post about that in the near future. So, stay tuned for that fascinating tale.

The Prophecy has the crest of the Vanguards:

The Outlanders has the crest of the Ecclesiastics (the Outlander crest had not yet been completed at the time of cover creation, so that's why it's not on there)

So, my guess is The Fulfillment will either have the Ethereal or Volton crest on the front.

Ethereal

Volton

So the game is... if you were a super genius cover artist like Anita, which of these two crests would YOU choose for the final cover??

Parades, Food Festivals, and Book Signings--OH MY!

Hello, friends! Deek and I have landed ourselves right back in the middle of edits again. I'm on my first round of line edits for the The Fulfillment, and Deek is on his second round of content edits for 122 Rules. We're back to working side-by-side, noses to the grindstone, where only the sound of clicking keys (and the occasional kiss) can be heard. ;)

But before we slipped down the rabbit hole into the Cave O'Edits, we decided to try out some new adventures. This year, we were asked to participate in a local parade and march on behalf of the library, and as I'm sure you can image, we readily agreed.

Here we are, ready to wave and have fun! I'm decked out in purple and black for The Prophecy! The ladies at the library put my book on the "Read Local" sign they were carrying. I felt the love! <3

After the parade, Deek and I drove to Portland to check out The Bite. Deek's lived near Portland his whole life and has never checked out this event. I'm all about doing, seeing, and experiencing, so I was totally down for this adventure. For those that don't know, The Bite is a food festival. You pay a small entrance fee (it's cheaper if you get them online ahead of time) and get to sample tons of different foods.

Time to EAT!

PEOPLE! Stop the presses...they had drinkable chocolate. I kid you not. It was sigh-out-loud-eyes-roll-in-the-back-of-your-head good. In fact, you get a bracelet when you go into The Bite so you can leave and come back, and we *may* have left and then come back just for more drinkable chocolate. Out of this world! My favorite was the one with sea salt. I'm Southern, so I enjoy a little food with my salt. But Deek liked the dark chocolate one the best. http://treehousechocolate.com/

We ate little sliders with candied bacon at this place. Yummy!

After we sampled the many splendors available at The Bite, we walked across the Burnside Bridge and strolled along the floating walkway, hand-in-hand.

The clouds were amazingly beautiful along the floating walkway.

And no trip to Portland is complete without a little rendezvous at one of Portland's most famous stops...Voodoo Donuts. While in line--there's ALWAYS a line--Deek found a way to represent his novel, 122 Rules!

Thanks, Voodoo Donuts, for supporting my man! ;)
122 Rules

There was only one little snafu to this happy day...I forgot to wear sunscreen. I think I've grown accustomed to all the shade on most of our adventures (I mean, I remembered to wear it kayaking) or something because I totally flaked. And as a result, I ended up looking a bit like a lobster. But thankfully, we put aloe on it right away, and it never hurt. I can't ever remember a time when I had a sunburn that didn't hurt.

Then...

I was asked to do a book signing for the library's birthday celebration. WUT?? So, my publisher sent down a whole bushel of books, and Deek and I headed over to meet fans and sign books.

I'm all set up to sign!

Can't forget my trusty purple pen. Never mind that the lefty is holding the pen in her right hand. Pretend you don't see that. For shame...

I had the best time meeting people, signing books, and talking about fandoms! I even managed to sell a pair of books to the mayor himself! Oh, and I got requests from some local businesses to carry my book in their stores! SQUEE!

But best of all, I spent the day in the company of my husband/best friend, Deek. I loved watching him interact with my fans. He's so charming and engaging. I'm betting quite a few of those girls left with a huge crush on him, and I can't blame them one bit! ;)

Deek also wore the shirt I found for him that represents 122 Rules. Man, he's a hawty!

Interacting with fans and signing their books was a dream come true. Some days, I look at my life and can't believe I've literally living the dream. I'm married to the greatest man in the world who is my soul mate, I'm a published author, I work from home for a publishing house, and I am blessed with amazing family and friends. Wow, wow, wow!

Keep on believin', my friends! I'll leave you with a Langston Hughes poem I've held onto from the moment I first read the words:

Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.

Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow.

First Time Kayaking and Hiking Mt. Hood

Hello friends! My adventures with Deek just keep on keeping on! It's funny...when you live somewhere your whole life, you often don't visit the tourist spots or landmarks. Deek feels like he's fallen into that category in that he's never been to Mt. St. Helen's, hiking on Mt. Hood, kayaking, etc. Since I've come here, he wants to show me all there is to do and see in the lovely Pacific Northwest, and in doing so, he's getting to experience these things himself firsthand.

This past weekend, we were supposed to go to a work function, but it got cancelled. So, we found ourselves with some free time we didn't expect. Deek and I looked at each other and said, "What sounds fun?" For Saturday, we decided on kayaking and Sunday hiking in Mt. Hood. I love how spontaneous Deek is. When you do what we do for a living--editing/marketing for BookFish Books from home for me and slinging code for Deek--it involves a lot of sitting. Some days, he comes home, and we're both like, "Let's go DO something." It can be as simple as a walk around the local outdoor shopping center or more complicated like hiking up a mountain. I really enjoy that about us. We just love to spend time together and have fun no matter what we do.

Kayaking:

I think the hardest part of kayaking is actually getting the boat down to the water and putting it in. We rented some kayaks and were given rolling wheels to take it down to the river. Well, these things are long and cumbersome, and we had to cross roads with them. It was actually quite comical. I'm left-handed, and the rental guy started me out pulling the kayak with my right hand. It felt really awkward, and I pushed the darn thing right into a bush. But once I switched and let my left hand control the kayak, it was effortless.

When we got down to the water, we had to slip them off the wheels, lock the wheels to the dock, and then lower the kayak into the water over the side of the dock. Sliding it in down the dock would have damaged the bottom of the boat per the rental company. Those things are heavy, but Deek and I worked it like a boss.

The day was hot, but once we were on the water, it felt great! Deek and I have been doing a lot of cardio lifting lately, so my arms and shoulders were totally up to the task of paddling. I was really proud of how well I did and how quickly I moved and maneuvered the boat. When I was a teen, I worked as a camp counselor at the YMCA, and we took the kids out on canoes all the time. I thought I loved canoeing, but I love kayaking even more!!

Mmmmm...hawt man! Deek is SO FUN! I love his zeal for life!

Gorgeous views on the river. There were these AMAZING houseboats we saw along the route. I can't imagine how cool that lifestyle would be!

Strong arms and shoulders thanks to lifting. ROAR!

Hiking:

On Sunday, we decided to hike to some waterfalls up on Mt. Hood. Due to an unusually warm winter and almost total lack of snow, the mountain looks a little like a wet cat. It's usually fuller than this. Since I moved to the Pacific Northwest, Mt. Hood has become my favorite mountain, and I search for it in every city we go to. I've taken countless pictures of it, but I've never actually been up on the mountain...until now.

We took a 4.6 mile hike down one of the trails which houses two waterfalls. The first comes up quite quickly, but the other is much farther down the trail. The trail was very narrow and full of fine dirt, so we ended up covered in dust! Also, the hike to both waterfalls was labeled "easy," but I disagree. We had to do a lot of special maneuvering to get down to that second waterfall...but boy, was it worth it!

Waterfall #1

The Pacific Northwest is known for micro-climates. For example, it can be sunny in one town and raining in the next town over. Well, the mountain had its own micro-climate. We were walking along in the sunshine and warmth, and then it started raining big, fat drops all of a sudden. When walked about ten more minutes, and the sunshine returned. So funny!

Waterfall #2--O.M.G.

Wow, totally handsome man in front of a gorgeous waterfall!

Smooching in front of the falls. I'd love to do a kissing under the waterfall moment, but not in that frigid water! ;)

After we hiked back to the car, we decided to explore the big ski places nearby--Skibowl and Government Camp. Skibowl had some really cool summer activities. One day, Deek and I will go back there and do them. Then, we explored Government Camp, which is a totally cute place! The building are made to look like a German ski village. I really loved walking up and down the sidewalks and peeking at all the stores and restaurants. And then...we saw it...

Huckleberry Inn

One of my most favorite movies of all time is Tombstone, and one of my most favorite characters of all time is Val Kilmer's version of Doc Holliday. So, my sweet husband took me inside their little restaurant for dinner. And wowsa was it delicious! I mean, really and truly delicious. Thanks, Val/Doc for inspiring a great meal, and thank you to my thoughtful husband for taking me there just because I liked the name.

Even if you've lived somewhere your whole life, I encourage you to go somewhere you've never been. Try out that tourist spot you always thought you'd find the time to see. Or go off the beaten path and try something only the locals know about. It's so fun to experience new things, enjoy your surroundings, and make memories with those you love.

Thanks for being my partner in this and all things, Deek! I love you to the moon and back again. Or as you told me when you were really, really sleepy a few nights ago, "I love you to the dwarf planet Pluto and beyond."

Sweet Madness Ebook Launch!

Today we’re celebrating the release of the Sweet Madness ebook by Trisha Leaver and Lindsay Currie. Sweet Madness is a retelling of the infamous Borden Murders told from the POV of Lizzie’s Irish maid, Bridget Sullivan.

Seventeen-year-old Bridget Sullivan is alone in Fall River, a city that sees Irish immigrants as nothing more than a drunken drain on society. To make matters worse, she's taken employment with the city’s most peculiar and gossip-laden family—the Bordens. But Bridget can’t afford to be picky—the pay surpasses any other job Bridget could ever secure and she desperately needs the money to buy her little sister, Cara, passage to the states. It doesn’t hurt that the job location is also close to her beau, Liam. As she enters the disturbing inner workings of the Borden household, Bridget clings to these advantages.

However, what seemed like a straightforward situation soon turns into one that is untenable. Of course Bridget has heard the gossip around town about the Bordens, but what she encounters is far more unsettling. The erratic, paranoid behavior of Mr. Borden, the fearful silence of his wife, and worse still...the nightly whisperings Bridget hears that seem to come from the walls themselves.

When Bridget makes a horrifying discovery in the home, all that she thought she knew about the Bordens is called into question...including if Lizzie is dangerous. And the choice she must make about Lizzie’s character could mean Bridget’s life or death.

Excerpt: I wasn’t sure if I felt more like Alice in Wonderland or Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. I sure wasn’t in Kansas anymore, but it felt like I’d fallen down a rabbit hole. Another girl outside the stall brushed her hair in the mirror. It took me a second to realize she wore a very prim and proper school uniform, complete with an ugly plaid skirt and pressed shirt. She looked me up and down but said nothing. Though from her head-to-toe inspection of me, she clearly disapproved. I scanned the room, trying to figure out what else was different. The mirrors were clean—no random lipstick marks or haze from cosmetic spray. A deeper flare of panic kicked my heart into high gear as I realized Joan had ditched me. I checked the other stalls, each as spotless as the one I materialized into, but other than the other chick at the mirror, I remained alone. My hands shook as I pushed my hair away from my face. A sob hitched in my throat, but I forced it down. I had to keep control of myself until I got my butt back where I belonged. Then I could freak out, preferably in the comfort of my room, under my blankets. I’d make a little fort and bring ice cream. My room—I just had to think about my room. Wait, did I even have a room here, wherever I was? The other girl threw me one last carefully bland look and left the room. Something told me she would go report me to the school authorities. For a second, I thought about trying to catch up to her, but my voice caught in my throat. I took a deep breath and realized if I wanted to get back to my school I needed to figure out where I was. Pronto. I could Travel from here—I didn’t have to know my starting point—but I’d already managed to get myself in the wrong spot once today. The smartest thing to do would be to stay put until I figured out where I’d landed. Taking a deep breath and clutching my textbook to my chest, I pushed the outside door open. As I glanced around, goose-bumps rose across my back. The layout of this school looked identical to my own. Lockers lined the hallway across from the bathroom door, and the low murmur of voices resonated from the classrooms surrounding me. Of course, there was one big difference. This place was most certainly not a public high school—and not the one I’d left a minute ago. “There you are. What took you so long?” I jumped and stifled a scream as someone addressed me. “Um, I think you have the wrong person.” I turned and met the boy’s eyes. A rush of blood swirled under my skin. He had the best green eyes. They were also unmistakable. My heart froze in my chest. Joan’s brother, my boyfriend. Dead boyfriend. Alive and kicking—well, currently he laughed and stood a little too close to me. I struggled to breathe. “Henry.”
